Special Education Advocacy

I support families navigating the complexities of the special education process. With over a decade of experience teaching special education, I help connect educational data and records with meaningful student outcomes, translating IEPs and 504 plans into actionable support based on best practices in special education.

The Approach
Understanding the whole child is key to effective advocacy. I focus on analyzing data to assess how your child is performing, how services are delivered, and where gaps may exist. This includes:

  • Classroom Observation: I review how accommodations and supports are implemented, recognizing instructional strengths and recommending adjustments to support your child’s learning profile.
  • Record Analysis: I examine the full history of your child’s records, including evaluations, IEPs, report cards, progress reports, work samples, and teacher communications. By analyzing this data over time, I identify where growth is occurring and where services may need adjustment to better support student progress.
  • Family Preparation & Strategy: I help families prepare for the table by reviewing the current IEP, identifying specific concerns, and drafting a clear Parent Concern and Vision Statement to help your perspective drive the discussion.
  • Meeting Participation: I provide a collaborative, informed voice at the table to guide decisions and keep the focus on your child’s progress.
  • Ongoing Implementation Support: Advocacy doesn’t end when the meeting is over. I review quarterly progress reports to monitor for consistency and remain available for consultation throughout the year as questions or new concerns arise.

Collaboration Over Conflict
While I advocate strongly for your child’s needs, I maintain a collaborative relationship with your child’s school-based team. Using observations, data, and research-based best practices, I help shift conversations from conflict to practical, student-centered solutions.
