As a teacher, parent, and lifelong lover of reading, there are two key philosophies I live by. The first is that all reading is good reading, and the second is that everyone can learn to love reading. Here are 5 genres to inspire even the most reluctant readers!

Good readers are active readers. They use strategies to engage with the text before, during, and after reading to improve comprehension and engagement.

There are many active reading strategies, but today, I’m going to focus on a few key ideas using the acronym ACTIVE. It stands for:

  • Activate prior knowledge
  • Make Connections
  • Track down information
  • Construct Inferences
  • Visualize
  • Evaluate

Here are easy ways to use each strategy every time you read!
